It is with deep and profound sadness that we share the passing of Luke Ward Stepp, who left this world far too soon on October 26, 2025, at just 18 years old. Born on December 19, 2006, to Gregg and Robin Stepp, Luke was a beloved son, a devoted friend, and a bright light whose warmth and joy touched the lives of all who knew him. His sudden departure leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community that was so fortunate to be part of his life.
Luke’s love for sports was as boundless as his energy and enthusiasm. Whether on the basketball court or the soccer field with Upward Sports, he gave his all—playing with determination, good sportsmanship, and joy. Through these games, he built lasting friendships and created memories that those who knew him will carry forever. A proud and loyal Tennessee Vols fan, Luke found endless excitement in cheering for his favorite team, his spirit and passion evident in every game day celebration.
Beyond athletics, Luke found true peace and happiness in nature. He loved being outdoors—whether fishing on a quiet morning, hunting alongside family, or simply taking in the beauty of God’s creation. His connection to the natural world was deep and genuine, and as he neared graduation, he was eagerly preparing to pursue a degree in Forestry Service at Cleveland State Community College. Luke dreamed of turning his love for the outdoors into a lifelong calling, one that would allow him to care for and protect the environment he so greatly admired.
Kindness and generosity were at the very core of who Luke was. He found joy in helping others and took great pride in filling shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, giving from the heart and spreading love to children across the world. His strong faith in the Lord guided every part of his life. A devoted follower of Christ, Luke lived with humility, integrity, and compassion, always striving to reflect God’s love in how he treated others.
Those who worked alongside him at Ace Hardware and Discount Tire will remember his unwavering work ethic, his friendly nature, and his smile—a smile that could brighten even the hardest day. Luke had a rare gift for lifting spirits and making people feel at ease, leaving a lasting impression everywhere he went.
Luke was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Pat Hodgin; grandfathers Edwin Stepp and Bill Ward; cousin Shane Hoskins; and an infant sister. His memory will forever be cherished by his loving parents, Gregg and Robin Stepp; grandparents Herb and Marion Stafford, Jan Ward, and Peggy Stepp; his aunts and uncles, including Melody Stepp (Greg Samples), Detra Green (Mike), Leslie Britton (Mark), Laura Revard (Dave), Eddie Stepp, Sean Ward, and Chad Ward (Laura); along with numerous cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends who loved him deeply.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Luke on Saturday, November 1st, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at The Chapel Cleveland, located at 2412 Wolfe Drive, Cleveland, TN 37311. A celebration of life will follow at 3:00 PM, offering an opportunity for all who knew Luke to come together to honor his memory, share stories, and reflect on the joy he brought to so many. After the service, Luke will be laid to rest at Moore’s Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse at PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607, in honor of Luke’s compassionate spirit and love for giving.
Though Luke’s life was brief, his impact was profound. He will be remembered for his bright smile, his gentle heart, and the love he so freely gave. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the kindness he shared, and the light he brought into the world.
